Service Description
This class is perfect for beginners eager to explore the fundamentals of watercolor painting. Instruction will cover selecting and purchasing supplies, mastering paint-to-water ratio and control, and applying different washes. Participants will learn various techniques for creating texture, including dry brush, lifting, scraping, salt, sponges, and spatter. Additional instruction will focus on the importance of background, midground, and foreground to create perspective and depth in a painting. Participants will also learn how to transfer reference material to watercolor paper in multiple ways—no drawing skills required! The class will introduce watercolor pencils for unique textures and effects, as well as the use of permanent ink with watercolor washes for a more defined painting style. Through step-by-step guidance, participants will complete a finished painting to take home, along with sample exercises demonstrating each technique. No refund or make-up class will be given for missed classes. Supplies needed: Please bring a #6 round brush, 140 lb watercolor paper, and 3 small tubes of watercolor paint in alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, and cadmium yellow (or aureolin yellow).
