Beneath the Current invites viewers into a layered world where emotion, memory, and momentum collide. In this collection, Christina Cooley explores the forces that move beneath the surface—both natural and psychological. Her paintings embody surges of energy and moments of stillness, using dynamic linework, flowing textures, and vibrant contrasts to chart an inner landscape in flux.
From the electric intensity of Outpour and Mindstorm to the meditative calm of Sylvan and Subtlety, each piece captures a distinct emotional state or shift. Some works suggest propulsion—like Embark or Catalyst—while others dwell in reflection, like Liminal or Rains. Together, they form a visual narrative of tension, release, and quiet transformation. This is a show about what moves us, and what we carry quietly beneath.
